As a licensed therapist I have been asked many questions about why an Eddie Lamar Sharpe, Jr., Substance Abuse Therapist in Hoover, AL would work with a client who has been arrested for criminal activity. A Narcotics Anonymous member once said that they had a problem, but the addict was still working with the organization, so how could they be arrested. The answer to that question is that an addict should not be working with the organization if they are not truly addicted and cannot be cured. So, does someone who is arrested for a crime that they did not commit get the same treatment from an addiction treatment therapist? The answer would most likely be no. An addict should not receive treatment from an Alcoholics Anonymous group either. They are not addicts and cannot be cured.

The Addiction Treatment Therapist would not advise an addict to go back to jail when he or she is not ready to do so. It is not that the person is a bad person. It is that they made a very poor decision at the time. They have learned from their past and now know that they should never do that again. However, they are not willing to admit their error.

I encourage an addict to go through an alcohol and substance abuse therapist if he or she wishes to be clean. After all, an addict needs a very strong support system. It is the addict’s responsibility to seek out an addiction treatment therapist for help. If the addict is willing to do that, he or she will find that this therapy helps them become healthier and better equipped to become a sober and drug-free individual.
