Tarama Lashay is a Drug and Substance Abuse Therapist in Dothan, Alabama. He is a certified therapist and works at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. In addition to being a substance abuse therapist, he is also a licensed health care specialist working in the fields of psychological, psychiatric, and behavioral health, including substance abuse and addiction. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Treatment Center (SAMHTC) provide comprehensive treatment programs for people who are alcohol, drug, or bipolar disorder, pregnant women, children, and people with other co-occurring illnesses. Lashay serves as the Executive Director of the Alabama State Council on Alcoholism and Addiction, and he serves on the board of directors of the Alabama Medical Association and the Alabama Psychological Association. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama College of Medicine, and he serves on the executive board of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Commission of the state of Alabama.
Prior to starting out as a substance abuse and addiction therapist, Lashay worked as an intern in the Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in social work at the University of Alabama. He also worked as a counselor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alabama. His internship in Tuscaloosa helped him acquire the clinical skills necessary for treating substance abuse and addiction.
After working as a substance abuse and addiction therapist in Tuscaloosa, Lashay went on to become the Executive Vice-President of the Alabama Medical Association. He is also currently a practicing psychotherapist in private practice in Tuscaloosa and elsewhere in the state. He has written several books on the subject matter of addiction and has been invited to speak at various national and local seminars on the subject matter. In addition to working as a substance abuse and addiction therapist, he has worked as a counselor and chaplain in various faith-based rehabilitation and recovery centers. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Drug Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment Center of Alabama. A gifted speaker and author, he enjoys giving people hope with his message of recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
