The Doctor of Psy. Dr. James R. Megar Ed.D., LPC-S is a Licensed Psychotherapist and Substance Abuse Therapist in Florence, AL. He earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Maryland and has also completed courses at Touro College and the University of Pennsylvania. The Doctor of Psy. was appointed to the Board of Clinical Practice by the State Board of Medical Examiners, which requires a certain level of experience and certification.

In addition to his doctorate degree, Dr. Megar earned an Associate of Arts degree in Counselor Education and Psychology from Touro College and an Associates of Science in Counselor Education and Psychology from Touro College. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the National Council for Accreditation of Counselors and Psychologists. He is past president of the Alabama Psychological Association. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Megar is employed as a licensed clinical psychologist, licensed psychotherapist, clinical supervisor of psychology students and is the clinical director of the Addiction Center of Stuttgart, AL. He also serves as a professor in the Department of Psychology at Touro College. Dr. Megar is a member of the National Academy of Counselor Examiners, the National Association for Clinical Education and Research, the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis and the American Psychological Association. Dr. James R. Megar Ed.D. LPC-S, has been elected to serve as the Chair of the Substance Abuse Therapy Practice Committee of the Association of Psychological Technicians (APT) of North America and is a member of the Executive Committee of the APTA Council for Continuing Medical Education. He has also served on the APTA Board of Directors since 2020. Dr. Megar is a Certified Clinical Social Worker with a PhD in Social Work.
